Miso is living with Amy right now. He is a rescue who “helps” her with editing.

Kyle belongs to Donna Gordon, author of What Ben Franklin Would Have Told Me. She says he’s a people cat who behaves more like a dog. She says, “He loves ice cream, yogurt, and a place at the table doing family dinners and book club discussions.”

These cuties live with former guest Sarah Munroe, acquisitions editor and marketing manager at West Virginia University Press. Together, this duo keeps an eye on the chickens, Harry, Larry, Dreama, Phil, and Charlie.

Former guest Namrata Patel doesn’t have a pet, but her literary inspiration was this Wally who belongs to a friend of hers in Portland, Oregon. Wally is a little bit naughty but very friendly.

You would expect a mystery writer to have a cat named Mycroft, wouldn’t you? This Mycroft (not Sherlock’s brother) lives with Jess Montgomery, our former guest. She inherited Mycroft from her daughter who headed to the military.

Gilbert is the adorable doggo of former guest Court Stevens. He is training to be a therapy dog and library friend and accompanies Court on her visits to schools.

Chelsea Hofmann, creator of Thrillers By the Book Club, doesn’t have a pet, but she has licked a jellyfish when she lived in Palau in Micronesia. She had heard these jellyfish do not sting. As an avid scuba diver, this was an opportunity she couldn't pass up.

Mina Mayo (kitty) is named after the Dracula character Mina Harker AND the condiment, while Bella’s name was also inspired by a vampire book character. Bella loves nibbling on Mina’s neck, which Mina thinks makes an excellent massage. These animals belong to former guest Tabby Pawlitzki and her brother and SIL.

Estelle is the adorable pet of former guest Kim Vidrine and may well be the most spoiled guinea pig on the planet. Until very recently, Estelle was an audit student at Cedar Park High School in Texas where Kim teaches.

Kingsley is companion to Perks guest Rebecca Rosenberg, author of Champagne Widows. Rebecca says Kingsley is her third Cavalier King Charles spaniel who loves to explore her three-acre lavender garden.

This is Colt, a distinguished older gentleman who accompanies Perks guest Maggie Smith to her book launch parties. He even wrapped himself up in a scarf to match the cover of her book, Truth & Other Lies.

Say hello to “Hidey,” an alias for Carrie’s very vocal feline. You’ve probably heard her on one of our recordings. Even when Carrie shuts her out, Hidey smushes her lips up to the door. Do cats even have lips?

Former guest Angela Jackson-Brown has four furry friends but one has an especially appropriate name for a published author: meet Harper Collins. What a literary-minded beauty.

Mazey Eddings’s debut rom-com featured a cat named Big Booty Judy, and we think we know who inspired that. Meet Yaya & Zadie, who live with Mazey. Mazey says she is on the verge of becoming a crazy cat lady because she always wants to know what these felines are up to.

This is Layka, the fur baby who belongs to Perks guest Ivana Murk. Ivana says Layka is super sweet. She is six months old so her main hobbies are chewing on everything and jumping on people. She does make time, however, for snuggling.

This is Holly, who belongs to Perks former guest, Jacqui Isser (episode 93). Jacqui says about Holly: “We are so in love with this baby. We adopted her in August. She was a breeding dog until we got her, so she had never lived in a house, walked on a leash, or played with toys.”

Dolly and Patch belong to our guest Ashlee Clark who talked about the Moth events in Louisville on her episode. She says, “Dolly and Patch are rescues with a relationship that has evolved from reluctant roommates to (mostly) loving siblings.”

Cocoa is the squirrel-addicted dog of former guest Giselle Spurgeon. She has been known to sit outside watching squirrels in the freezing rain until she is limping with in pan. Her family will bring her in the warm house only to then have Cocoa begging to go back outside. She doesn’t seem to learn.

Charlie is author Kimmery Martin’s shadow. He was adopted from an animal shelter a year ago and had experienced trauma. Kimmery says, “He’s not a perfect dog. He’s deeply neurotic.” Still, he provides unconditional love and is adorable.
