I’m Amy Smalley

I’m the mother of 3 young adult children who still do their laundry at my house and leave all the kitchen cabinet doors open.  I am crazy about dogs and have 3 of my own, but I also take care of my daughter’s cat (who loves me) and her guinea pig (who doesn’t seem to have a preference about me one way or the other). My husband and I always try the calamari no matter what restaurant we dine in, I make a killer banana bread, and I always take too many pairs of shoes on trips. I’ve tried to quit Diet Coke several times but have decided it will just have to be my vice. I’ve been a literacy tutor and started a Friends of the Library program in rural Kentucky. I led toddler storytimes as Mother Goose, have been a vintage and antique online bookseller, worked at Barnes and Noble, and am a “semi professional” book club organizer.  The way to my heart is through books, dogs, and wine (if you want to get me a bottle, I adore a good Spanish Albarino).

Here are two charities that I work with and mean a lot to me.  (You guessed it; pets and books).  You will probably see me post about them.

I’m Carrie Vittitoe

Like Amy, I’m a mom of three kids. Unlike Amy, I’m nuts about cats. I do like dogs, though; my kids have a little neighborhood pet sitting business so I get to enjoy puppers without a full-on commitment. I work several part-time jobs: I teach English to middle and high school homeschooled kids most Fridays of the school year. I also substitute teach for the local school district. I’m a freelance writer and do consulting work for an educational nonprofit. When I’m not doing these things, I mostly complain. My husband and I never go out to dinner anywhere so we don’t order calamari. I’m kind of a curmudgeon. However, I do really like books (duh), socks that have cuss words on them, sitting in front of a fire pit on a cool evening, and watching the bunny rabbits in my yard.
